Codename: Lofty Ideals For today’s elite-level wine offering, you’ll enjoy over 44% off on the impressive 95 point flagship wine from our friends at Deering Wine. Today only - and only while it lasts - we have their Deering Wine 2009 Sonoma Valley Ideal. We first featured Deering in 2013. Back then they became an instant hit with our Operatives. Unfortunately, this small-production winery usually sells all of their wine directly to wine club members, leaving very little for wine merchants like us. When Agent Red learned that they were sitting on a cache of their 95 point flagship red, he hightailed it to the winery to do some begging. He was successful, but the winery only had a limited number of cases. Lucky for you, he absconded with every last case. Bold blueberry, blackberry and red currant leap from the glass on opening. As the wine opens up, it reveals cherry candy, raspberry jam, sweet tobacco leaf, cigar box and sweet spice. Juicy and bursting with concentrated flavors of blackberry and cherry juice that coat the palate. As the wine settles onto the palate, additional flavors begin to appear, including dried dark flower petals, plum, cedar, baker’s chocolate, sweet spice and freshly ground black pepper. Today’s wine is Very highly recommended! Accolades: Double Gold Medal - 2013 San Francisco Chronicle Competition Gold Medal - 2013 Sunset International Wine Competition Tasting Profile Look: Inky dark burgundy hues, from the slightly opaque heart of the wine, out to the lighter purple edges. After a good swirl, tall, skinny legs move quickly down the glass. Smell: Blueberry, blackberry, red currant, cherry candy, raspberry jam, sweet tobacco leaf, cigar box and sweet spice. Taste: Blackberry and cherry juice, dried dark flower petals, plum, cedar, baker’s chocolate, sweet spice and freshly ground black pepper. Finish: Extra extra long and very plush with fruit, earth and spice that seem to last forever. Pairing: Enjoy this very flavorful wine with rich red meat dishes, or a flourless dark chocolate cake. What the Winery Says Before texting, match.com, and wine in a box, there were simpler and more elegant times, when letters were written, women were courted, and wine was always poured into a decanter. We long for the sensibilities of the past. That is why Downton Abbey and our Cabernet Sauvignon Blend are so popular. Our Ideal has rich flavors of stone fruit, wild truffle and spice that come together to create sophisticated character that will make you want to slow time down to savor it. WINEMAKER Todd Maus VARIETAL Red Wine VINTAGE 2009 APPELLATION Sonoma Valley ABV 14.6% PRODUCTION 304 cases About the Winery In 2004, we purchased 16 acres of Old Vine Zinfandel and Maus Vineyards was established. Our property was part of the historic Beltane Ranch located in the Mayacamas region of the Sonoma County Viticulture area. The area is known for its rocky slopes of volcanic basalt, shale and sandstone bedrocks. The vines love the cool maritime influence accompanied by evening fog and many warm sunny days. Our property is at a high elevation which allows the fog to burn off sooner. This creates great morning sun exposure that carries through to the afternoon. As a result, the property is suited for many different varietals. The Deering property totals 106 acres and we are very sensitive to the environment, practicing sustainable organic farming. The Deering name has a long history of agriculture in America, producing some of the first farming “machines” in the 1880’s. Blair (Deering) Maus’s family created the Deering Harvester Company which eventually became International Harvester. Winemaker Todd Maus Todd’s family has also been involved in farming for hundreds of years. Today he continues the dedication to improving agricultural practices and the love of farming started by his ancestors’ centuries ago. His biggest passion and fascination has been with beverages, to the point of brewing beer in his family’s garage. When he moved to the Bay Area, his passion for wine began. While working in San Francisco during the day, he took night courses on winemaking and grape growing in Napa at night. Todd nurtures the vineyard with an eye to quality, not quantity. Our property was part of the historic Beltane Ranch located in the Mayacamas region of the Sonoma County Viticulture area, an area known for its rocky slopes comprised of volcanic basalt, shale and sandstone bedrocks. This creates great morning sun exposure that carries through to the afternoon. As a result, the property is suited for many different varietals. In addition to our Maus Vineyard Zinfandel, we have planted 3.5 acres of Petite Syrah, 1.5 acres of Grenache, 1 acre of Mourvedre and 1 acre of Charbono. These are currently in root stock with the expectation of producing grapes in 3-4 years. We plan on planting the other 7 acres with some other interesting varietals within the next few years. Sustainable Farming Practices At Deering Vineyard we are very sensitive to the environment and are practicing sustainable organic farming. This means that we are only planting in brush areas, allowing us to save the beautiful old oak trees and creating a good balance of wild land where beneficial insects can thrive. There are good homes for owls, bats and foxes. <img height="1" width="1" src="https://www.facebook.com/tr?id=949726531738197&ev=PageView&noscript=1"/> About The Wine SpiesAbout The Wine SpiesAlcohol SalesRestricted StatesTitle and OwnershipShipping & HandlingAbout The Wine SpiesCovert greetings!
